Changing the face of beauty pageants

Cindy Breakspeare, Miss Jamaica 1977
The common misconceptions of beauty queens are slowly disappearing in the face of society. Beauty pageants are no longer about modeling half-naked in catwalk styles, but a life-time opportunity for young women to become ambassadors for their own countries. To be such an ambassador, a woman is chosen on the basis of her beauty, deportment and intelligence, and not political ideology or affiliation.

The pageant often incorporating personality, talent demonstration, and question responses as judged criteria, yet it still attracts significant controversy, particularly for how they present women.

Jamaica has come a long way and is the most successful Caribbean Island that has produced several queens who took home the Miss World title.

Miss Jamaica World has created and introduced a new "Fast track" competition, which is multi-tiered, with local competitions feeding into the larger competitions.

The sixteen (16) finalists will participate in five areas of competition. Winners will automatically earn a place in the top ten spots. The titles that they will vie for are, "Miss Jamaica World Beauty with a Purpose", "Miss Jamaica World Sports", "Miss Jamaica World Model", Miss Jamaica World Talent" and "Miss Jamaica World Beach Body".
