Miss Westmoreland Katrina Grant is Miss Jamaica Festival Queen 2008
A kaleidoscopic opening from the 13 contestants vying for the title of TVJ’s Miss Jamaica Festival Queen 2008 was captivating, but only one woe away the judges and audience.

Katrina was rightfully crowned the new Queen for 2008 as she displayed intelligence, and poise, and will act as the cultural ambassador for Jamaica, locally and internationally. She also took the titles for Best Performance and Most congenial. First runner-up was Miss Kingston and St. Andrew Traci-Ann Wint and second runner-up went to Miss Manchester Subrina Ward.

Lorna Golding, wife of Prime Minister of Jamaica, The Honorable Bruce Golding was “The Patron” for 2008 and gave the opening speech, words of appreciation and encouragement for the contestants.

The contestants, all queens in their own right, are by far the most talented as each year the selection gets better. The talent segment saw an array of talent ranging from dances, speech and drama.

Awards

They were presented with plagues from Television Jamaica (TVJ) General Manager Kay Osborne. The most culturally aware contestant was none other than Miss Kingston and St. Andrew Traci-Ann Wint. Most Poised was awarded to Sabrina Ward Miss Manchester, Most active went to Miss St. James, Sachoy Ellis, Most Popular Vote winner was Miss St. Catherine Miss Marsh Campbell. Best Designer went to Andrea Lindo; Miss St. James Sachoy Ellis wore her design.


TVJ Miss Jamaica Festival Queen, will not only be cultural ambassador for her nation, but also an outstanding role model for other young women across the island. For Katrina Grant, newly crown TVJ’s Miss Jamaica Festival Queen her new Journey begins as she strife to live up to this year theme, “Jamaican Woman Shaping our Future”.
