All the Right Moves at Dancefest 2008.
If there was one word to describe the JCDC's National Festival of the Arts Concert Series, Dancefest, it would be - mesmerizing, but then again, you could use so many other words like entertaining, energetic, and amusing.

A colorful and vibrant display of young talents from across Jamaica was showcased at the National Indoor Sports complex on Friday July 25, 2008. The performance consisted of groups which entered and received gold medals in the National Performing Arts finals for this year.

The venue was almost at capacity when the show began at the time announced, - 7:30pm.Host Dervan Malcolm of Power106 FM, created an enjoyable atmosphere, much to the delight of the audience.

The opening act came from Mineral Heights Primary. They delivered a well choreographed piece, adorned in the Jamaican colours, entitled “Tru Jamaican Style”. One of the most energetic performances came from Eltham High. The piece called “Pop Poppin” was well received by the audience with thunderous applause.

Another memorable and great performance came from the Tivoli High Dance Troupe. They had the audience at the edge of their seats with their act entitled “Sphere”. Using an office chair on wheels as a prop, the display of balance, skills and strength, had everyone in awe. You would be forgiven if you thought you were at the circus as the dancers balanced on their heads while on the chair and completed a variety of acrobatic skills. It was one nerve racking experience for all of us but it was - Good!

Bobby Carter of Ascot High gave nothing but an outstanding performance; he showed much flexibility during his routine and was loved by the well entertained audience. He also performed with his group, “Tie Souls”, another powerful and unforgettable showing of true strength and raw talent.

The festival of the Arts Concert Series held its first staging in 2001 and has become a festival favourite, constantly pulling a huge gathering at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Center. This festival series gives us a tremendous opportunity to get a closer look at the abundance of talent which lies right across our Island Jamaica.
Dancefest is a part of the week long series, consisting of talent in the categories of Music, Dance, Speech, Drama and Traditional Folk Form.

The celebration of Jamaica’s achievements in cultural development continues throughout the year. Jamaicans can truly be proud of this accomplishment and should encourage our talented young minds to continue to develop their art.

Dancefest started on a high and closed on an even higher note with an intoxicating African piece - 'Kooyah', done by Eltham High.

The JCDC is on to a good thing and with the assistance of sponsors such as Digicel, TVJ, Power106,Burger King etc. the sky is the limit which means 'a whole lot a fun' in store for us - the audience.
